Donation of Refurbished Laptops to Connect-In-Place Students In-Need with Partnership through Human-I-T

August 20, 2021

Thank you for helping me get a laptop! It is a life changing experience. I am so grateful for Connect In Place (CIP) helping me with this laptop. Being a 9th grade student, last year was very difficult for me to have class online with my parent's phone only. Screen is very small and I cannot see who else is in the class if I need to look at what my teacher is presenting. If anyone call my parents I need to stop my video call and pass the phone to my parents. Sometime teacher does not let me back to the video conference until 10-15 mins later because they don't see my request and I miss big portion of my class. Holding the phone for such a long time and try to write notes is another challenge. Thank you very much for this laptop, I can finally type notes or screen capture whatever my teacher is presenting. Also I can type on the chat box fast enough if I have questions. Homework is also much more easier with a big screen that does not fell back when I am charging it. I can finally store all my notes and homework in one place! These laptop are expensive and CIP volunteers collect enough donations to make this happen to students like me. I am forever thankful for what CIP does to me. I love you guys!

This collaborative effort provided 20 low-income students with laptop devices who lacked a reliable device at home. These devices have become a lifeline for students to communicate with classmates, submit homework, attend class, and share school resources.  Your donation comes at such a crucial time when school has transitioned online, and helps even the playing field for students left on the wrong side of the digital divide.

Human-I-T is a nonprofit and social enterprise that creates equitable access to opportunity by providing devices, internet access, digital skills training, and tech support for communities left on the wrong side of the digital divide, while at the same time, empowering businesses and organizations to do good by diverting technology from landfills to protect our planet.

Connect-In-Place

Connect-In-Place (CIP) is an educational nonprofit organization working to address the inequalities in modern education by providing student learning opportunities through small, virtual interactive courses, 1:1 mentorship, as well as college and career-related events. The organization was founded amidst shelter-in-place orders during the COVID-19 pandemic. However, despite the sense of normalcy beginning to return to classrooms across the U.S., CIP still looks to offer realistic learning experiences for interested students on both global and domestic scales. Moreover, the organization will continue its efforts in supporting low-income families with a need for technology in 21st-century classrooms through the laptop donation program.
